Sarah Simenoff (PhD Archaeology in Progress)
Sarah Simeonoff is a PhD student in the archaeology track at CU. One of Sarah's primary areas of research interest is in bridging the divide between archaeological fieldwork and collections and indigenous communities. Through her PhD work, Sarah hopes to share the invaluable cultural information and archaeology of Alaska’s Sugpiat (Alutiiq) people with not just tribal members but the broader public. In this way, her research has become a deeply personal and meaningful avenue towards exploring her own cultural heritage as a Sugpiat. Sarah's interests are rooted in a desire to preserve cultural resources for the future. As she continues in her career, she hopes to involve Native people in all processes of archaeology (commercial, academic, avocational and museum) to make certain indigenous voices are always heard in archaeology and museums.
